Term 2 Inquiry - Light and Colour

Here are some of the Big Ideas and Science Concepts that we will be covering this term.

Light is a form of energy that can be obtained by various energy conversions.

Some light sources produce light of different colours (for example, lasers, glow-worms, sodium lights).

Coloured light can be produced by selectively blocking some parts of the spectrum.

We see colours when different materials reflect different mixes of wavelengths of light.

The colours of objects come from their reflection and absorption of different parts of the spectrum of colours in light.

Surfaces that reflect a lot of light are very light coloured or shiny; surfaces that absorb a lot of light are very dark coloured or dull.

We see when light reflects off objects, enters our eyes, is converted to electrical energy at the retina, and is then interpreted as “vision” by the brain.

We see colours when the eye’s retina sends “messages” to the brain

Katy – ANZAC Presentation

This week Katy presented to Room 11 and our buddy class her published work about ANZAC.  This undertaking was inspired by her great-grandad and grandad who were both involved in wars.   She showed us memorabilia from her grandad’s extensive war time collection. We got to view items that we would otherwise never get to see, e.g. bayonet, swords, medals, hats.  Katy spent many hours researching and interviewing in order to find out more about this important event in New Zealand history.  Tino pai  Katy it was an outstanding effort.

Marc Chargall

We worked with a partner to analyse and interpret a Marc Chagall artwork and took notes on what we saw in the image. We then selected ideas from the notes to use in creating a poem; manipulating, developing and threading ideas together into a sequence.
